The filter of the Project Explorer does not let you add spouses. If
all you want is descendants and their spouses, using the Focus Group
is probably easier.
- Start with an empty FG, and add the starting ancestor.
- Select that person, check the descendants option in the Add Others
section and specify the number of generations, and click the Add
others button.
- Click the Select All button to select everyone now in the FG,
uncheck the Descendants option and check the Spouses option, and click
the Add others button again.
You now have all the descendants and their spouses. You can use this
FG to either export these people, or in the List of People report to
make a separate Project with only them.

Backups cannot be made to include only part of a project. You could,
however, create a temporary Project that includes only the desired
people, and make the backup from that. You create the project using
the secondary output of the List of People report. You specify the
people to be included by use of a focus group, a filter, or selecting
them in the Project Explorer.
