Jill,

Thanks for the filter, Jill! I appreciate your desire to have the
accumulated results of this exercise posted publicly. The Arlington RUG
site http://www.rootsusers.org has open pages as well as a members-only
section. Presentations are posted to the open downloads page for a month or
two then they are moved to the members-only downloads page. The newsletters
are also available, both electronically on the members-only page and
hardcopy via the mail. I'll send out an email to the TMG-L when it posts.

Re the RUG: our dues are nominal, $15.00, and we have been able to continue
operating, albeit in the red, at this price for many years thanks to a small
legacy. Members gain access to Member-Only portions of our site with all
the handouts from past presentations as well as a mailed newsletter. This
coming year, 2006, we will be asking members to let us know if they could
receive the newsletter electronically via a link to our webpage instead of
the mailed hardcopy because mailing costs are going up yet again!!

Thanks again!
Jan

P.S. Since the TMG-L is archived, if folks post the filters under this
heading, we should all be able to find them in the TMG-L archives, too. The
same should be true of the Forum.

Janis,

I don't subscribe to the RUG newsletter. It seems appropriate if you ask
this list for help that the results of your accumulation be posted here as
well.

Having said that....going away, my most frequently used filter is the
following:

List of/People/any event/place field/contains/[?]

My ancestor's data is collected in parish records by village in Germany.
This sorts them all out. Even used it when I recently moved to Washington
to sort out the folks with Washington connections. Using the info, I have
found the marriage dates and death dates of some cousins that I did not have
before.

My output is:
Surname, Given Name/ID #/Birth date/marriage date/Spouse's name/death date/
death place.

The reason I ask for the death place is that some died in the US and this
lets me know which ones. It does collect for ALL events, even if not BMDB
info but that's OK for me.

Please consider posting on this list or on some generally accessible
website.

Jill

I've been following the TMG-L for the past couple years and seen numerous
users ask whether there is a place where people could post filters for other
users to see. I decided to take a crack at this by collecting filters for a
training session on Filters at a meeting of the Roots Users Group (TMG/RUG)
of Arlington, VA. Right now, I believe am slated for the March 2006.
