Bob, the issue not that the people then would use the double date, but when
people used the Julian calendar, the date of the year change was often NOT
January 1st. (March 25th was one common date for the year change). I think
that to properly enter these date you would want to use the double dating
convention. For example, an event recorded in Jan 1501, could have occurred
in the month after Dec 1501, which would require you to enter it as Jan
1501/02 or it would appear to TMG to occur a year earlier then it actually
did.
