No argument here, I've never looked. They appear as an em-dash and
that is all I was interested in (or not as the case was).

Yes, in MS/Word, but not in other MS programs (e.g., WordPad) and not
in Notepad (not surprising since it is just a text editor).

I don't think it is that hard to open the Windows Character Map
applet (Tools=>External Utilities on the TMG Main Menu), select the
desired character, and copy/paste it into the TMG field (usually
Memo). Of course, you could also hold the Alt key down and type (in
the numeric keypad) "0151" (no quotes) which gives the same results
without the hassle of going to the Window Character Map.
