In order to avoid confusion with dates I always enter the month as alpha
characters instead of numeric.

1/10/2000 can be interpreted as Jan 10, 2000 or October 1, 2000 depending on
which option you have chosen in "File > Preferences > General > Date
Format".

However 10 Jan 2000, Jan 10 2000, 1 OCT 2000 or Oct 1 200 will not be
misinterpreted no matter which option you have chosen.
