Subject: [TMG] TMG v6.12 Reporting Problems in WordPerfect
Date: Sun, 31 Dec 2006 11:53:48 -0600
I've received several responses, two of which were sent directly to me. To those who've suggested using 5.1 output, as I said in my original post, this no longer works since I upgraded to version 6.12. That's my problem. It was the upgrad to v6.12 that started my issue. When I was using v6, I also found a work around by using the WP 5.1 output format. This no longer works!
In TMG output options, I use Arial exclusively - I don't mix font types (and can't think why anybody would want to). There is no separate option for setting the point size for footnotes which I assume TMG automatically specifies as a small point size than report text. If I use WP 5.1 or later as the output translation, the report is generated in Arial and, initially, everything looks fine. The footnotes are aligned properly with the margin and the superscript characters are correct. BUT, when the report reaches page 18, all footnotes become scrambled with the text. The report becomes a hopeless mess which is not fixable (I've tried cutting and pasting, etc.).
When I generate a report in WP v.7 or WP v.8 and later, the report prints out in Times Roman, despite my having used Arial in TMG and, once again, the footnotes are properly aligned and superscripted. But, the footnotes have been generated in 12 point size. None of the recommended fixes in WP, so far, have fixed the problem, including getting into the Styles formatting commands, either in the original Document Style OR in the Footnotes Style Menu. I can change the point size until the cows come home, but WP enforces the 12 point size (the code reads Times Roman 10[12]). I've studied and studied the Codes under Reveal Codes, looking for something that might cause this problem.
For any other WordPerfect user reading this post, if you've ever had problems with a report locking up your computer while your scrolling through it, you might want to download a copy of wplook.exe http://www.wpuniverse.com/vb/showthread.php?threadid=23110 . This utility is able to strip out unused codes and fix file corruption problems (which can happen within lengthy reports generated by TMG). I am posting the link because I've found it very useful.
I'm beginning to be afraid that even a macro (which I've never written) might not be able to change the enforced point size. I'm at a complete loss and have posted my issue on WordPerfect Universe in hope of a solution. I don't think I'm going to be the only WordPerfect user with this problem.
My thanks to all who've posted and tried to help.
Toby
