Subject: [TMG] FILE MAINTENANCE

For the first time in a year or so (I know, I know ... 100 lines and go to the back of the class!!), I've done the file maintenance
operations on my project. Notwithstanding the message that says that each may take 'several minutes' none lasted more than 10-20
seconds. Presumably because my project contains only 1,600 people?

Validate File Integrity reported that '298 potential problems had been fixed' and the log file contained the following:
checking last viewed spouse -- fixed 250
fixed empty date in name table -- 268
checking for people without primary names -- fixed 8
checking witnesses -- fixed 12

Do any of these indicate data entry errors on my part or any issues that I should be concerned with?

I did a search through the archives for tips on how often to do file maintenance and found what appear to be 2 schools of thought.
Several people said don't bother with Reindex because it is included in Optimize, and suggested one should Optimize every session
and Validate every month. On the other hand, other people said that WhollyGenes suggested Reindex, Optimize and Validate (in that
order) every session. It was also mentioned that "if Validate has returns, run Optimize". Is there a definitive view on the
optimal way in which maintenance should be done?

If there is such an answer, I think the wording of the suggestions about maintenance in File > Maintenance >Performance
Recommendations should be modified to assist users to establish a meaningful routine (and, for example, to tell users that Optimize
also Reindexes).

I look forward to any comments/answers.
