I use a Palm Tungsten E with GedStar Pro. I use it constantly to make sure
I'm not duplicating efforts. I stay with my family when I go home to do
research, so doing data entry on my laptop when I get back to the house is a
snap. I always take my laptop with me on a trip, but for casual outings
while I'm there, I use my Palm. Everyone in my small town knows my family,
so it's not unusual for me to be having a meal at the Kountry Kitchen and be
asked questions about my genealogy. Voila! I whip out the Palm and there
it all is. My Palm is slightly larger than a pack of cigarettes, so it fits
in my purse easily, even with all the other junk I keep in there.

As far as doing research, I use the full-blown GedStar Pro that tells me my
sources, documents I have, etc. It essentially has everything in the Palm
that is in my full data base here at home.

I think you'd be pleased with using a PDA. A Blackberry is just too
complicated for me (I'm a computer doofus)!

Has anyone used a handheld computer for research? It is difficult to use a
laptop in many places space being at a premium so I was thinking about a
handheld device. I see software for PDA's that is compatible with TMG and
FTM. Since most of the places I will be doing research are some distance
away, I want to collect the most data I can in a single visit. That being
the case I would be basically replacing pen and paper with a PDA and enter
the data into TMG upon returning home.
I would appreciate any thoughts or comments about this idea.
Also, has anyone had experience with the physical use of the PDA? ie are
they really usable?
Thanks
