I use the XP Backup Wizard on my network and it does find for what it
was designed to do. This assumes that Windows itself is available to
run the Wizard. So don't bother keeping a backup of Windows
itself. I also suggest that you do not backup any programs. Just
backup any program data. You may want to keep backups of your
program configurations although sometimes it is almost as easy to
just reset your configuration after re-installing.
The idea of a removable hard drive for backup is great. But I
suggest that you do not rely on just the one drive. I would suggest
two and even better three and rotate them. Best would be that you
have enough to rotate during a period (say a week) and then take the
last of the period some place else - bank vault, friend's house,
etc. That way you have only lost a few days worth of data if there
is a catastrophe at home.
Hope this helps -
