Cheryl,

I do as some of the others have outlined...In the supplemental tab of the
tag type there are two types of entries:

1. generic description of what each CD stands for, e.g. CD1: person's name,
first name first, CD2: primary person's address in parentheses etc.

2. specific examples, e.g. Fred Smith||22056 Olympic Way East, Portland
Oregon|| etc.

For complex or very generic web sites, like USGENWEB, I often access a type
of database for different types of information. In those cases, I will
include multiple examples.

When I open the tag, I copy the most pertinent example, I paste it into the
Citation Detail screen and type over the example with the correct
information.

It works for me.

Subject: [TMG] Keeping track of [CD] and [CM] designations in lumped sources

I have tags for which the source is a message on a mailing list.

Most of these sources are the result of searches for people whom I believe
may be connected to elusive ancestors, and whom I wish to research further.
These will not appear as citations in reports I share or on my web site,
because the people to whom the tags are attached are "works in process".

However, some citations that I will share include this source, because it is
my only source for a probable BMDB date for a person in a collateral line
whom I will not be further researching (or because I believe the data to be
correct, but haven't yet accessed a better source).

I created a custom source type which facilitates my preference for lumping
:) This source type has [CD1] through [CD5] in place of [AUTHOR],
[SUBJECT], [TITLE], [ORIGINAL DATE] AND [DATE ACCESSED]. It's working well
today, but my concern is that months from now if I want to add someone to my
dataset for further research, I won't recall what the [CD]s are. I put an
excluded "key" on the Supplemental tab (where I hope I will remember to
look!) but I am wondering how other lumpers keep track of what goes in
multiple [CD] and [CM] fields in citations.

Thanks,

Cheryl Freeman
