Subject: [TMG] Swithing Language Technique

The use of the Language Feature to switch sentence structures seems to be a
powerful tool as demonstrated by Teresa Elliott in her Census Tabulation
method. On the surface the technique would seem to have potential in say
basic UK one name and/or one place studies where extensive use is made of
inputs from Census Records, the BMD Index, and other tabular type records

The Pros as I see them through my novice eyes are that it may eliminate the
need for (but will not be as efficient) off – board spreadsheets lists and
the complexities of external file and program associations which can be
difficult to maintain over time.

It may reduce the amount of double keying (although in my case it is
probably to late as I already have large files of BMD, Census, Directory and
the like extracts transcribed onto various lists by me from the facsimiles –
I never where possible rely on the transcriptions of others).

However as an inexperienced novice and before venturing into uncharted
waters where few seem have gone I would ask what if any are the hidden
ramifications of doing this. Are there gochers waiting for the unwary in
such things as backups, updating, importing exporting

As I understand the literature one has to be careful when switching
customized sentences as the program can irrevocably revert back to the
original default values without warning and presumably can screw up
globally.

Your opinions would be appreciated

Regards
