Thanks so much John, and everyone else, who has offered help with my reports
problems. Having a plan in hand is half my battle. I have a terrible time
deciding. And then not changing my mind. I have a SOP book that I put my
modus operandi in once I decide, so I can remember it next time.
I am off to tackle the problem.
The basic problem stems from the fact that this database was started YEARS
ago in Roots. And has been imported thru several generations of Roots and
UFT. And I entered most of my data as research data and conclusions, so it
doesn't print up pretty. Time to pretty it up. And I will start with my
parents, and go back, and ignore all the cousins I have found, for now.

Marty,
I think the answer varies on how you approach the problem, and a mix may be
appropriate.
1) If you are going to go through person-by-person and fix narratives for
certain important people, then you should probably work mostly in TMG. Pick
a person, edit that person's tags, run some Ind. Narr. reports to test the
results, and when you think you are done with that person, make your site
with SS to see how the person looks in SS.
2) If you are going to fix certain tag types, then you might want to use TMG
and TMG Utility to make changes to multiple people, and then use SS to see
how the changed tag looks in the output for multiple people.
For example, you might decide to fix sentences for Occupation tags. Using a
combination of editing the Master Tag Type sentence, and possibly using TMG
Utility to do a Find and Replace on the memo field of Occupation tags, you
could make bulk changes to how Occupation tags appear. You could run an Ind.
Narr. report in TMG, but running a report for a few thousand people, and
then reviewing the results, is slower in TMG than making a site in TMG and
reviewing it in a web browser.
That's just one example, but I think the general approach holds: if you fix
a specific person's tag, you should probably work more in TMG. If you made
broad changes that affect multiple people. then the review process might be
faster and more effective using SS. I know some people who make a site, then
close SS but keep a browser window open to the site SS made. They re-open
TMG and and use the SS-produced pages they see in their browser as a guide
to what to fix in TMG.
