Judith,

I'm not an expert, but I would doubt NJ would give a pension to a
Confederate soldier.

I've checked for Confederate pensions in Alabama and Tennessee and both of
them were different. As far a I know Confederate pensions were only offered
by the state not Federal government. If I were you I check to see what SC
says about pensions
