Yes, that is correct.

Actually, I'm not sure whether it would apply the current Source Types or those initially applied to the Project when it was created.
I am sure that if you have made any edits to any of the Source Types, or have created any custom Source Types, clicking the Initialize button will destroy all your changes. So don't try it unless you are very sure you have never made any changes to any of the Source Types.

Yes, although I can't think of another one.
When you create a new Data Set all the standard Source Types and Tag Types are loaded into your project. After that you are free to edit all the properties of both Source Types and Tag Types. If subsequent changes were made to those properties by program updates your edits would be overwritten. Further, if the change effected how the Sources or Tags of that type work, your existing Sources and Tags would no longer work as they did when you created them.
Because of this, any changes or fixes to Source Types and Tag Types are generally not applied to existing projects.
