Chris,
We are with Teresa, when we read your list of program supposedly protecting your computer, and in particular Adaware, we saw red flags. We had some problems with specifically adaware and also some security programs. We ended up spending the better part of a day with techs from a small west coast firm that cleaned things up, helped uninstall some that were stubborn and made sure there were no viruses. In the end, the problem was in Adaware and a couple of security programs. We ditched all and added their security program and we have had no further problems of that kind. It would certainly be worth checking out.

I think it has to be your machine. I just double clicked on a tag and it
opened before I could count to three. I would say a little over a second. I
have 25,000+ people in my database. My sentence structures are large, and I
used a tag with a long memo. (Which TMG had to load in order to display the
tag).
I am going to be honest with you. A few years ago the kids had a problem
with Trojans on their machines. We removed Adaware and haven't had one
since. I just don't trust Adaware anymore. I would disable the spyware
programs and see if you see any performance improvement. I can't say whether
you will or not, but I think you should be seeing TMG 7 working a lot faster
than you describe.
I only have one dataset in my project, so I don't know if having 8 could be
part of your issue.
If you go to FILE>MAINTENANCE>PERFORMANCE RECOMENDATIONS, it will give you
some ideas of what is slowing TMG down.

Subject: [TMG] Performance issue worsens with V7?
Hi,
Ever since buying V6 I've experienced significant delays in taking certain
actions with TMG - for example selecting a TAG. I had hoped that there
would be performance improvements with V7 but am finding the opposite. For
example - it takes > 10 seconds from selecting a TAG (e.g. Birth
Registration) to the window appearing. Now - if I select a location within
that TAG (e.g. L3) then it takes about the same until I can enter the data
(once the first location field has been populated there is no delay before I
can populate the others).
I am using XP Pro SP2 on a Dell Latitude D600 Laptop (1.4GHz, 768MB RAM,
30GB disk). The disk has about 3GB spare and is regularly defragmented. I
use Adaware, Spybot S&D, TrendMicro "Office Scan". Upgrading the memory is
not an option (It doesn't belong to me).
I'm using V7. I have about 3,000 people in the project which has eight data
sets. [I understand this to be a very small project.] I have run all the
TMG maintenance tools.
I have quite complex Access databases on the PC with millions of records on
dozens of tables, with forms and reports - about 4GB in size - and these
seem to run significantly quicker.
Any ideas? Are there any registry settings I need to tweak to improve the
TMG performance?
Chris
