OK, that didn't work and I didn't expect it to as centre window option not
available.

I have now got it working again though. Its linked somehow to the multiple
monitor setting. I turned it off and the window is now visible again.

I have turned multiple monitor back on and lo and behold the window is still
visible.

That sounds to me like a screen has opened out of view, which is canceled by
the Esc. key. I'd suggest temporarily moving the Details window aside so
that the upper left to center area of the main TMG window is clear before
trying to add a person. If my guess is correct, you will then be able to see
the hidden screen. Often finding it once clears the problem.
