Jan,
I use it. It's best for keeping up with tasks that are finished. <G> I use
TMG a little differently than most but here's my method.
A repository is a Deed Book, census roll, microfilmed roll of will books. I
have the inventory of microfilm for each county in TN, where my research is
located, but you could use Family Search. I then use GENSMARTS to give me a
list of ancestors that MIGHT be found on that roll of film. Once I have my
list, I start with each one and create a tag that would correspond with that
roll of film (let's say I am using a Deed Book microfilm, I'd create a deed
book). Each tag type has a role called TO DO LIST. I would use that role.
The date would be the date range for the deed book(s). The place is the
county and state of the film. (sometimes I use the repository information,
but I am not sure which I like better)
Then I attach the task. I use the repository as well. Now when I order the
film, I can get a list of tasks that are attached to that roll of film, and
I will know who to look up in the index. I can then use that same
repository when I create the sources, so that the film information is
exactly the same in each source, and I only have to type it once.

Subject: [TMG] Research Log
Hello list -
I love reading your posts and learning from you and your TMG web sites.? I
love TMG and don't even use it to its fullest potential as many of you do.
I have a questions about the Research Log?and I don't see that function
discussed much.? I really want to start keeping track of my research and
tasks but haven't figured out how TMG can help me do it after looking at the
research log and task features (I can't even see the difference between the
two in TMG).? The research log seems very rudimentary and unhelpful (I'm
comparing it to what I have seen in Legacy).
How are you all managing tracking your research - what has been done and
what needs to be done?? Do you use TMG or do you use something else?
Thanks for your ideas and input.
