I also add everyone I've found in TMG while researching a surname. I don't
want to lose track of them in case I find a connection, and even more
importantly, I want to document the fact that I found them and could not
make a connection. If I've looked closely at one of these people, I'll add a
research note explaining why I think the person is not connected - or why
they might be. If I find one of those people again in a different record, I
don't want to spend time looking for a connection if I've already done so.

Doreen,

I have 2 flags called Related to Cheryl and Related to Joe, with values Y N
and ?, and with accent colors. I do this primarily because it facilitates
using icons that help family members using my SS output to see their
connections. But I've been struggling with wanting to accent ancestors in
TMG for my own use. I really like your values of A, B, C, and M. I could
have one accent for ancestors and another for collateral. I've got people
who would have both values C and D - and others who would have both values C
and M. I'd have to think through using the M value.

But one of the other benefits of using multiple values for my "related" tags
could be being able to lines which I haven't connected, but where there is a
Y-DNA match with my husband, to keep those lines clear in a visual way.

I think I will start on this - I've been working on sources this month, and
this sounds like a more fun project :) Thanks for sharing - it's amazing
how many ways we can organize info in TMG!

Cheryl

I forgot to mention that I also use 2 Flags called Related to Peter and
Related to Doreen. Then I have values like A = Ancestor, C = Collateral
(siblings and descendants of siblings), M = Married in, D = different
branch. Might get a bit messy if I ever connect the dots between a C group
and a D group, but I'm sure that I can deal with that then, using filters
and such.
