When working from Ancestry (or like sites with databases and images) I save
the image to an appropriate folder in my folder organization and then paste
the citation information (from the print friendly page on Ancestry) into
Notepad, adding any pertinent comments and information including the site
such as Ancestry.com and the date viewed. On hard to read images I sometimes
add what I can transcribe from the screen, notes about 'household continues
to next page' or 'mother-in-law is two households away' or whatever comes to
mind. I then save this text file using the same file name (not the file
extension of course) as I named the image file.
I also (mostly) print the image and the text file for my hard copy files.
Since I get awfully hot on the trail sometimes, I often don't search and
enter my data into TMG as I go but enter instead from the printouts with the
text files providing whatever I need to know besides what is in the image.

Terry:
For some of us, Ancestry does more than just provide a copy of the image.
Often, they also provide the citation elements. I often copy the citation
detail information for census data, ship manifests, etc from Ancestry and
paste it into my CD in TMG. Then I manipulate the info to fit my citation
style. I always spot check the Ancestry-provided citation info as best I
can against the information on the image, but many times the image does not
provide all the detail in the Ancestry citation. To a certain extent, I
rely on the accuracy of Ancestry's citation information; thus, "citing xyz"
seems often appropriate to me in reference to an Ancestry image, because the
Ancestry-provided citation information may, in fact, be wrong..

Mike
