Hi, Virginia:

A pretty good idea, unless one is a stickler for detail. There is
a huge difference between AWOL and desertion. Desertion requires
an intent to remain absent. Being AWOL just means one is not
present for duty at some specific time. No, there isn't a clear
line of distinction, but they *are* different.

For a soldier on a weekend pass from Fort Bragg, it's the
difference between oversleeping in a motel in Fayetville, and
buying a plane ticket to Algeria under an assumed name.

Of course, the only use of such an icon is in the program, so as
long as the one who can see it, understands it, it really doesn't
matter if it is "technically correct".
