Subject: [TMG] [TMG & SS] Best way to send info to others (Was SecondaryOutput to Flags - Was Second Site questions)

Sorry, I guess I didn't clarify what I wanted to know. I knew that one could
print "the page", as per any web site page. But when it comes to printing "a
page" from a personal genealogy web site, which is basically what I see SS
to be, I don't like doing it, because a lot of the pages aren't terribly
logical in lay out. By which I mean that I have seen situations where most
of a family group is on one page, but one or two of the children are on
another, mixed in with people totally removed from them. I have used some
personal genealogy web sites which related to families I am researching, and
had to copy and paste into a Word document to get the information I wanted.
It was A PAIN! And writing to the author wasn't an option, because the email
address was no longer valid, but never got updated that I could find.
I was thinking more of what you can do on some genealogy web sites where you
can go to one person and then print a descentant indented chart and / or
journal report for 5 or 6 generations (I think some of the Family Trees on
Rootsweb have that capability?). So, I was hoping that there might be a way
for the relatives to print reports such as the descendant indented chart and
a journal report, even if they were limited to 4 or 5 generations at a time.
I roamed around in the SS related sites (John, Terry, whatever I could
find), and didn't find anything, so I suspected there wasn't any way to do
reports from SS. But I was hoping I had missed something.
Which leads me in another direction. I am happy to now be using SS, and
looking forward to what I can do with it. But have I possibly gone off in a
poor direction for my original purpose? Which is to send a large amount of
information to various people, for their use. I expect that they will be
entering possibly large amounts of information from what I send into their
programs, but probably cherry picking from certain people. They all have
computers, but a couple are not whizzes on them. I don't know what genealogy
software they have. I do NOT want to use Gedcom because I make extensive use
of witnesses, roles, etc.
Can the list give me some ideas about the best way for me to send this
information to them? SS CDs are great as far as the receiver having access
to large amounts of interactive information. But for them to then make use
of that information to do entry into their programs, it appears to have some
large drawbacks. TMG Help > Export (all I could find) says there is
something called Data Interchange Format (*.dif). But if their programs
don't allow Witnesses, etc, then I suspect that any kind of export would
lose information when they import to their software? So I am back to an SS
CD as the best way to send full info to others, and it's their problem to
get it from the CD to their software?
Doreen Neilley - staying on the learning curve but wondering if I'm
temporarily on the wrong road!
