To the first question - no, you do not need to buy another copy of the program. I know you can use one copy on two computers (but not at the same time) and possibly three.

Keeping them synched is sometimes a challenge. If you get in the habit of backing up after every use (I use a thumb drive), it helps a lot. I use the desktop as my primary computer unless I'm at the library, archives, etc. I admit I don't restore on the laptop every time I update on the desktop - getting it out of the case, turned on, etc. is a bother if I'm just going to put it to bed again. My thumb drive is always up to date, whether I did a session on the desktop or the laptop and when I change, it's ready to go. I'm sure there are other, more sophisticated ways of keeping them up to date but this works for me.

We're about to get our first laptop so I have some questions about TMG.

I'll probably keep using the desktop for geneology work at home because of the big screen.
I'll use the laptop when we travel and maybe sometimes at home if I want to putter while watching TV.


Question 1. Do I need to buy another copy of TMG or can I use the desktop copy? I'll need TMG on two computers, but never at the same time. If so, do they need to be the same version (our desktop version is Gold 7.00.0000)

Question 2. How do I keep the two TMGs in sync. Sometimes the desktop will have the latest info and sometimes the laptop will. My husband is hoping to use a router with a wireless connection to let the laptop and desktop communicate.

Are there any other questions I haven't thought to ask?
