Just get rid of all the desk top stuff and use the laptop on the desk and use the big monitor with the laptop as a second monitor. That's what I do. Then you will be spoiled to having two monitors when you travel. Haven't used a desk top in years.

We're about to get our first laptop so I have some questions about TMG.

I'll probably keep using the desktop for geneology work at home because of the big screen.
I'll use the laptop when we travel and maybe sometimes at home if I want to putter while watching TV.
