Stan,
That just means paying attention when you create Source Definition that uses split CDs, or one that places the CD in the middle of the note, like a couple of the standard ones do. Go to the Full Footnote Preview on the Output Forms tab and read it ignoring the <[CDx]> entries. Does it make sense?
For a made-up example, say you have this template:
<[CD1]> record, [Record Type], [Repository]...
that is supposed to read:
Tom Jones record, Tax List, County Courthouse...
It's not going to look great when it reads:
record, Tax List, County Courthouse...
So, edit it so the "record" part is in the conditional brackets:
<[CD1] record,> [Record Type], [Repository]...
so now on the Sources page it reads:
Tax List, County Courthouse...
In other words, don't create a template where the CD element is essential to a sensible note. Since will be using the Short Footnote format (I assume) on the person pages, you can use the CDs there. It's not a big deal - with a little forethought it works great.
