I agree with Michael's observations. To me, this is an interesting
discussion since Teresa and I are actually related but have different
styles when it comes to data entry. Teresa splits and I lump -- we both
go after the same details but record them differently.
Hansell 'Hance' Moses Evett is a perfect example of how I deal with
multiple name variations and census age differences. Since this would be
very complicated to explain verbally, I uploaded a screen shot of his
TMG entries for you to see.
My choice is to use a custom non-printing "Research" tag (called R-Name)
to display/summarize name variations that appear in various event memos
as quoted text. He has lots of these.
The census reflected birth years are displayed using a custom Birth-Cen
tag with notes to myself in the memo2 field.
In order to separate out the Evett's and the Everett's, I had to review
all census and most deeds between 1790 and 1860. To my dismay, some
census takers only used one of those surnames on their return in a given
year. This fellow will be of interest until I am totally convinced he is
where he belongs.
