The LatLong field will automatically convert some forms of entry. I
entered your numbers thus: 44:51.714 -74:01.196 and got 440000N0740000W.
Note that the minutes were truncated, so I'm off a little in my notation.

I'm not finding this info in Help, but we had a discussion on this a
while back: This thread doesn't address your issue exactly (pertains to
decimal format), but it might help:
