Lee, Perhaps we need to get you to do a using the Research Log efficiently
webinar. <G> Totally not joking though, I'd watch. I do keep up with
research DONE in the research log and find it useful, but don't find it all
that useful for keeping up with research that NEEDS TO BE DONE. In fact, in
the time I can create a task, I can actually just do the research.
If there were a way to bulk create tasks (one per person) I'd probably use
it a lot more. I used GENSMARTS for years, but haven't used it in a long
time.

The Research Log and the List of Tasks Report function well for
me. It is all right there and I can tailor the report to the places
that I expect to go to. Occasionally, I will print a List of People
or List of Events report as a supplement, but that is rare (two or
three times in 18 years).

As for doing clean-up or something similar of people in TMG, I have
basically two List of People reports that I use. One is basically
used to reset a Custom Flag to its default setting. The other then
sets the Flag based on the filter I create to select the persons that
I need to work with. I sometimes actually generate the report to
file for use away from home, but most times, I suppress the report
generation and just set the Flag. After the Flag is set, I filter
the Project Explorer (PE) for the Flag setting. This then populates
the PE with just those people from the List of People report whose
Flag was set. Then I just start at the top of the PE and use the
Left/Right Arrow] buttons to step through the list.

In many cases, I just filter the Project Explorer using the filter
that I would have used to set the Flag. In a way, this is easier
since if I need to do the work in multiple sessions, I can re-do the
filter, get the up to date list and continue working from where I
left off. This somewhat depends on whether the filter is relatively
simple. But if the filtering needs to be more complex then I usually
wind up with the Flag setting. Again, I can just re-run the List of
People reports to set the Flag as needed to get the current
"re-start" in multiple sessions since that only takes a few minutes.

But stepping through the PE sure makes it easy to keep track of where I am.

Hope this helps -
