Judy,
If you have his 'birth name' tag (or just a Name-Var) as Samuel Frishland and
then another name tag, say a 'Name-chg' tag, in 1919 to show Samuel Frish, then
just select that name from the drop down in the tag entry window for all tags
after 1919.  It won't matter which you have as primary or which one shows at the
top of the Person Detail View.  This way all sentences from those tags where
Samuel Frish is selected will use Frish rather than Frishland.

In all tag entry windows you can select the name variation you want to use in
conjunction with that tag.  Look in the upper right corner straight across from
the name of the Principal.  Even though you change the name used in the tag, the
primary name doesn't change.  Only the name used in the tag changes--check that
by checking out the sentence after you've selected a name to use.  Remember you
won't see selected name change in the tag entry window except in the sentence.

Well, I'm obviously doing something wrong. I have Samuel Frishland (birth name)
who legally changed his surname to "Frish" in 1919. I would like to be able to
show "Sam Frishland" as his birth name and then have all events after 1919
display "Samuel Frish." As soon as I start playing with "primary," I lose his
birth name. Am I trying to do the impossible...or can someone help me make this
change? (I actually use "he" a lot, but I've left Residence and Death tags with
the person's name.)
