Rose,

The short place is how you want TMG to record the place on charts where
there isn't a lot of room. You can also tell TMG what field to use for the
short place in PREFERENCES>CURRENT PROJECT OPTIONS>OTHER Short place
template.
If you use the short place in the Master Place List (MPL) and you have two
places that are identical and one does not have the short place, they will
not merge. Therefore I think it's best to set the default in PREFERENCES.

In your example, I'd probably put Campbell Settlement, Parish of Southampton
in the detail.
You could also put Campbell Settlement in the detail, Parish of Southampton
in the city and then York County in the county field.

Today I am putting aside some time to work on the Master Place List....

Question for example if I have Campbell Settlement, Parish of Southampton,
York County, New Brunswick: What goes in the detail? Campbell Settlement is
a small community.

What does Short Place mean?
