You are definitely limited by the maximum size of paper in whatever Device
in your list of printers that you have set as the Default. That default can
be a PDF devices that is listed with the printer. But you must set the
default printer to this PDF printer prior to entering VCF. I tried setting
the default printer to the Wholly Genes PDF Writer, and was able to make a
chart that was wider, but when I tried to save the chart, I got a TMG print
error 30.

Gary,
I've produced several 8 foot long charts, which I've had printed an
Kinkos. After doing extensive editing of the chart (moving around sections
of boxes, and in two cases, merging two charts into one), I created a PDF
file which Kinkos just sent to their chart printers. I had a learning curve
to figure out how to accurately edit the charts, but it wasn't hard to
figure out how to enlarge the "canvas size". It's been a couple of years, so
I don't remember all the details, but I wasn't hindered by the Laserjet that
was my standard printer.

I have been going through some old messages on this mailing list trying to
find information on the size of charts. I plan on having charts printing by
Wholly Genes, and am trying to figure out how to create a chart that will
cover much of the width of the 3 foot wide paper used by Wholly Genes. What
I've found seems to indicate the charts that the VCF charting program
generates is dependent on the default printer attached to your computer. If
that's the case, how can you get a chart approaching the 3 foot width
without having a very wide format HP, Epson or Canon printer/plotter
attached to your computer.

In VCF, going to File->Page Setup and changing the paper size to 13x19
Portrait, then repaginating the chart makes little if any difference.
Trying to force VCF to make a shorter plot ends up with some ridiculous
sized plots. VCF doesn't seem to be able to layout children under parents
in any direction other than horizontal, which is part of why you end up with
very long narrow charts.. In the past I've tried to move things around in
VCF, and that is a complete disaster.
