It is unlikely that any of your files are bad. It is hard to tell what
you are trying to merge when you use the terms 'file' and 'dataset' - whether
you mean Project or Dataset (TMG's terms) in each case. Check out the

He also has an article on exporting a GEDCOM file.

If the focus group is not working, you may need to use a flag to identify
the people in the group. The clue to success with the focus group is being
sure to first highlight the person or persons for whom you want to add
ancestors, descendants, spouses, or name variations. The Help button on the
Focus Group window does a good job of explaining that.

If you give us a general idea of the makeup of the group you want to
export, someone here will be able to help - whether with the Focus Group or a
Flag.
