In these instances I use -ste too.
I go a step further though. In the birth sentence for these children, in the
memo field, I identify the real relationship and change the sentence to
[P], [M1], was born ... <[M2]>
M1 = daughter of John Peter Davis and Mary Jane Doe and stepdaughter of Thomas
Elloit Johnson
Now when the birth sentence is printed, it may read
Mary Jane Davis, daughter of John Peter Davis and Mary Jane Doe and stepdaughter
of Thomas Elloit Johnson, was born ...

Marsha, thanks for the response. So, I assume "Ste" stands for step-father.
Since I haven't run across this before, I'm going out on a limb with the
following. In the example I gave, the children were not adopted by the
father in the second marriage. So, I'm assuming you're saying the way to
add these (no adoption) relationships to TMG is with the Father-Ste tag.
I'll check that out.
Thanks, Tom
