I'm not sure if this is what you have in mind, but if you go into
Preferences > Data Entry and uncheck "Use tabbed version of tag entry", you
will get the Tag Entry box, witness entry, and citation entry all in the
same box. Adding sources is not there, but it will reduce the number of
screens you need to switch among.

That may help some.
