FRITZSCHE, MR. NOMA J., - retired business man, farmer & U.S. Army Air Force
Officer passed away Tuesday, May 30 in Methodist Medical Center, Oak Ridge.
Born on March 28, 1920 in Rockwood & moved to Sunbright in 1929 where he
graduated from high school. He joined the Air Force in 1941. He served until
1945 as a 1st Lt. Graduated as a B-17 bomber pilot, flew 25 missions out of
Foggia, Italy. Following World War II he returned to Rockwood in 1945, where
he went into business at Molyneux Lumber Company with his uncles, the late
Harry & Tom Molyneux. He became owner and president of the company until the
business closed in 1984. He also farmed during this time & lived on the farm
until his death. He was a member of the American Legion, 40 & 8, Civitan Club
of which he held several offices, including president & district lt.
Governor. He was past president of the Rockwood Jaycees & Chamber of Commerce
of Roane County, past president & other offices in civic organizations. He
was a director for Federal Land Bank & was on the advisory board of the Farm
Credit Services for this area. He was an elder of the First Presbyterian
Church of Rockwood. Preceded in death by parents, Max & Emma Fritzsche;
brother, Lealand Fritzsche; sister, Maxine Smith; grand parents, John & Ellen
Eachus Molyneux & Fred & Christiana Fritzsche and is survived by: wife,
Virginia Lou Coger Fritzsche, Harriman, formerly of Jonesboro, Arkansas whom
he married in 1949; daughter, Emma Lou Griffith, Atlanta; son, Dr. James L.
Fritzsche & wife, Lisa, Memphis; grandchildren, Michael Griffith, LaCross,
Wisconsin, Laura Renee Fritzsche, Memphis; great grandchild, Venita Griffith;
sister, Wilhelmina Andrews; niece, Margaret Law, both of Sacramento,
California; nephew, Robert Magness, Florida; sister-in-law, Nora Fritzsche,
Shelbyville; niece, Flora Fritzsche Barbara, Shelbyville; special cousins,
Evelyn Carson Mankel & husband, George, Jeanette Carson Hedgecock & husband,
Larry, Martha Phelps & husband, James. Funeral services will be conducted
Friday at 2:00 p.m. from the First Presbyterian Church, Rockwood with Rev.
Stephen Yates officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery
with full military honors by the Roane Volunteer Honor Guard. The family will
receive friends from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian
Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian
Church, Rockwood or the American Cancer Society. Evans Mortuary of Rockwood
is serving the family of Mr. Noma J. Fritzsche.
HAUN, DANIEL JUSTIN, - age 20 of Powell, passed away Monday, May 29, 2000, at
his residence. He was born May 10, 1980 in Anderson County, Tennessee.
Survivors: parents, David and Sallie Haun, Powell; brother, David II and wife
Kathy Haun, Powell; grandmother, Bonnie Long, Briceville; great grandfather,
Jess Long, Briceville; niece, Briann Haun; host of other relatives and
friends; very special friend, Kristi Anderson, Clinton. Funeral services will
be held 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 1, 2000 at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home
Chapel. The family will receive friends Thursday 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the
funeral home. The interment will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 2, 2000 at
McCarty Woodhaven Memory Garden. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton in
charge of the arrangements.
MARINER, MARION EMMALEE BRANUM - age 75 of Norris passed away suddenly Wed.
morning May 31, 2000 with her son by her side at her home in Norris. Marion
was a graduate of Horace Maynard High School in Maynardville and Berea
College. She received her Masters from the University of Tennessee during her
career as a home economist, home agent in Campbell, Claiborne and Roane
counties, 4-H Club agent, educator at Fairview Elementary and Horace Maynard
High Schools, and Professor of Family Life and Expanded Nutrition in the
Institute of Agriculture at the University of Tennessee. She authored a
number of articles and course materials used in home economics and 4-H
programs across Tn. A native of the New Loyston community in Union County,
she had been a resident of Norris since 1970 and served two terms on the town
council. A life long Methodist, she was a member and sang in the choir of the
Norris United Methodist Church. She was active in Delta Kappa Gamma, the
Business and Professional Women's Club, and was Norris City Librarian
following retirement from 39 years with UT, prior to moving in with her son
to care for her granddaughter and namesake, Emmalee, as her son and
daughter-in-law completed their Navy careers. She volunteered at Fairview
School to read to kindergarten children and in Oak Ridge in reading to the
blind. An avid hiker, animal and plant lover, she could often be found in the
Norris watershed or trails in the East Tn. hills which she loved. She was
preceded in death by her parents, Elvin and Gertrude Coppock Branum; her
husband George Thomas Mariner, Sr., originally of Jacksboro; her brothers
Fred, Earl and H.C. Branum; and her sisters Orphia and Bonnie. She is
survived by her sisters Johnnie Mae Waldrop and Maycle Cummings of Norris;
her sister Ethyl; and brother-in-law Fred Johnson of Sheffield, Ala.; her
brother and sister-in-law Leon and Phyllis Branum of Union County;
sister-in-law Mildred Branum of Maynardville; her son George Thomas (Tommy)
Mariner, Jr.; daughter-in-law Rosemary Bryant Mariner; and granddaughter
Emmalee Ann Mariner; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Memorial
gifts in lieu of flowers should be given in her name to Berea College in
Berea, Kentucky or to the charity of your choice. Visitation will be Friday,
June 2, 2000, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gentry-Griffey Chapel in Fountain City with
the funeral services to follow conducted by the Rev. Burney Hutchison of
Valley Grove Baptist Church and Rev. Catherine Nance of the Norris United
Methodist Church. Graveside services will be conducted Sat., June 3, 2000, 11
a.m. at the New Loyston Cemetery on Hickory Valley Road in Union County.

ROBINSON, CAROLYN JEAN SHARP-86, of LaFollette, passed away Tuesday, May 30,
at Lake City Health Care Center. She was a member of First Baptist Church,
LaFollette. Preceded in death by husband, James E. (Ed) Robinson; son, Robert
Edwin (Robin) Robinson; parents, R.L. & Mary Susan Baird Sharp; sisters Alma
Pierson, Mildred Ann Brandon & Vee Stanfield. She attended L.M.U. where she
was Miss L.M.U. her freshman year in 1932. She did her student teaching at
Cumberland View Elementary School in Jacksboro. Survivors: son &
daughter-in-law, James Clifton (Jim) & Fumiko (Mimi) Robinson, Fayetteville,
Ga.; daughters & sons-in-law, Susan Robinson Miller & Marvin Miller,
Ooltewah, Tn., Cindy Robinson MacLellan & John MacLellan, Maynardville,
Tenn.; grandchildren, Robin & Nikki MacLellan, Dawn Zandi, & Melissa Miller;
great-grand daughter, Layla Desiree Zandi; sister, Lois Vivian (Johnnie)

SHOWN, MR. CLIFFORD JUNIOR - age 72 of Knoxville, formerly of LaFollette,
passed away Tues., May 30, 2000 at his home. He was of the Baptist faith.
Preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Evelyn Margaret Shown; and son Michael
Shown. Survivors: son and daughter-in-law, Benny and Jean Shown of Knoxville;
four grandchildren, Talia, Jennifer, Cody, and Brandon Shown all of
Knoxville; two sisters, Sally Carpenter of Ohio, and Bertha Worley of
Knoxville; one brother, Nolan Shown of Ohio; several other relatives and
friends. The family wishes to express sincere thanks to special caregiver
Mildred Wolfe for her care and friendship. Funeral services Thurs., 8 p.m. at
Walters Chapel. Family and friends will meet Fri. 11:30 a.m. at Woodlawn
Cemetery in LaFollette for interment. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8
p.m. Thurs. before services at Walters Funeral Home. Walters Funeral Home,

SPROLES, NORA B. - 88 of Manteca, Calif. for 4 years, formerly of Oak Ridge
for 41 years, passed away at St. Dominics Hospital in Manteca, on May 30,
2000. She was born Jan. 21, 1912 in Bristol, Va. She was a loving wife,
mother, and grandmother, and enjoyed traveling and reading poetry. She is
preceded in death by her husband, Marion H. Sproles, who died in 1988.
Survivors include her children, Joan Colmenero, Union City, Calif., Wayne
Sproles, Manteca, Calif., Bruce Sproles, Livermore, Calif.; sisters, Elsie
Short, Bristol, Va, Mildred Douglas, Kingsport, Tn.; 9 grandchildren; 13
great grandchildren. Visitation will be Sat., June 3, 2000 from 7-9 p.m. at
Weatherford Mortuary. Funeral service will be Sun., June 4, 2000 at 2 p.m. at
Weatherford Mortuary, 158 S. Jefferson Circle, Oak Ridge, Tn. P.L. Fry & Son
is in charge.
