CALVERT, AUDREY 'OPAL' LEE - age 83, of Oak Ridge, passed away peacefully
Wednesday, August 14, 2002, at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. Mrs.
Calvert and her husband, Oney C. Calvert by whom she is survived, came to
live in Oak Ridge in 1946. She enjoyed being a devoted wife, mother and
grandmother and said earlier this week 'I have loved every minute of it!'.
Her favorite activities were cooking for and spending time with her children,
grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, attending church, working crossword
puzzles, camping in Cades Cove and bird watching. She loved traveling to
visit relatives and for beach vacations. She loved to talk with friends and
family and took joy in listening to others. She will be remembered for her
quick smile, cheerful demeanor and warm acceptance of all she met. She was a
long time member of First Baptist Church in Oak Ridge, where she was a member
of the Philathea Sunday School Class, and had served as a Cradle Roll Leader.
She had served as a Cub Scout Leader when her children were in elementary
school. She was born and grew up in Pineville, Ky., where she graduated from
Pineville High School in 1937. She met and married Oney Calvert in Pineville
in 1938. One of her fondest joys was attending the annual Mountain Laurel
Festival there each year at Pine Mountain State Park. They would have
celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in September. Her survivors include
her husband and four sons and a daughter, O. Lynn Calvert and his wife,
Eileen of Oak Ridge, Karen Sue Baker and her husband, Michael of St. Louis,
Mo., M. Douglas Calvert, Gary L. Calvert and his wife, Linda and John G.
Calvert and his wife, Tammy, all of Oak Ridge. She was the beloved
grandmother of John R. Calvert and Matthew Calvert and his wife, Shawnna of
Oak Ridge., Joni Baker Fowler and her husband, Gene of Georgetown, KY.,
Bradley Baker and his wife, Angela of Knoxville, Jeana Baker Reidl and her
husband, Dan of Columbia, S.C., Michael Calvert and Kelly Calvert of Ontario,
Calif., Chad M. Calvert of Charlotte, N.C., Jeffrey Calvert of Knoxville,

her great-grandchildren, Ethan Thompson and Amy Calvert of Oak Ridge, Abby
and Audrey Fowler of Georgetown, Ky., Zachary Calvert of Ontario, Calif.,
Bryson Baker and Nina Baker of Knoxville, and Meagan McCroskey, Cody Ellis
and Jonathan Ellis of Knoxville. Her loving smile will be missed by her
sister, Emma Jean Wright of Oak Ridge, and her brothers, James Gilbert of
Cincinnati, Ohio, and Michael Gilbert of New Albany, Ind. She was preceded in
death by her parents, Roland and Cora Hayslett Gilbert of Pineville and
brothers, Ted Gilbert and Ralph Gilbert and sisters, Lorene Mink and Madeline
Mills. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces and many special
neighbors and close family friends. The members of the Philathea Sunday
School Class were very special to her. The funeral services will be held on
Saturday, August 17, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge
with Dr. Larry Dipboye delivering the service. Burial will follow at Anderson
Memorial Gardens. Those wishing to make contributions, in lieu of flowers,
