Subject: Don't We All Wish for This Kind of Court Entry
Date: Wed, 15 Sep 2004 14:23:18 EDT

Hi:

I am one of the folks that have volunteered to create an index for B.C. court
records. In doing so, I came across the following fabulous entry -- I was
jealous that the entry was not for one of my relatives:

Bedford County, Tennessee, County Court Minute Book, 1848-1852:

page 254 November Term 1850

This day personally appeared in Open Court William G. Nivins and filed
the following Declaration.
William G. Nivens being duly sworn in Open Court, declares an oath that
he was born in the County of Antrim in the Kingdom of Great Brittain and
Ireland on the 1st day of April in the year 1827 _ That he now owes allegiance to
her Majesty - Victoria Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Brittain and
Ireland._ That he emigrated from Ireland to the United States in the year 1844 _
That he has been residing in the United States and within the State of Tennessee
since sometime in the year 1844 _ and that is now, and always been since he
has resided therein as aforesaid. Benefide his intention to become a citizen of
the said United States, and to renounce forever, all allegiances and fidelity
to any foreign Prince, Potentate, State or Sovereignty whatever and
particularly to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to her said Majesty the
Queen of Great Brittain and Ireland.
Signed W. G. Nivens.

For you "Niven's" researchers --- you are so lucky.

Hope you all enjoy,
Lucy Dunaway Zeier
