Date: Mon, 8 Sep 2003 15:36:03 -0400

Hello,

An October 4 workshop sponsored by the East Tennessee Historical Society
entitled "New Horizons in Genealogy" will explore the capabilities and
limitations of DNA testing and Internet-based research as research tools for
today's genealogist. The workshop will focus on the basic use, as well as
offer more advanced tips for personal research problems.

The workshop will be held Saturday, October 4, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the
Carolyn P. Brown University Center on the campus of the University of
Tennessee. Advance registration is required. Admission is $30 for ETHS
members and $38 for non-members. Reservations may be made online at the ETHS
web site at http://www.east-tennessee-history.org or by calling
865-215-8824.

Guest speakers for the workshop will be Diahan Southard, a molecular
genealogist with Relative Genetics, a DNA analysis laboratory in Salt Lake
City, Utah. The laboratory is specifically dedicated to the use of genetic
analysis in genealogical research. Ms. Southard is a graduate of Brigham
Young University where she received a BS degree in microbiology. Also on the
program will be Ruth Schweitzer Pratt, a specialist in the application of
computers, the Internet, and video technologies to genealogy. She holds an
MS in computer science from the University of Kansas.

For additional information about the workshop, visit the ETHS web site at

Thank you.
