DISEKER, DORRIS - passed away Saturday afternoon, June 27, 1998, at Methodist
Medical Center of Oak Ridge. She was born February 25, 1911, to the late John
James and Virginia Creekmore Diseker in Williamsburg, Ky. She graduated from
Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Ind. In 1929 she began her teaching
career in Whitley County, near Williamsburg, where she frequently rode a horse
to school. In 1941 Dorris moved to Troy, Ohio, where she taught until 1944,
when she came to Oak Ridge and began teaching second grade at Pine Valley
School. In 1960 she transferred to Linden School, from which she retired in
1975. In the early days Dorris lived in Batavia Hall, a dormitory off Jackson
Square. Later she and her sisters bought their home on Henley Road. Dorris
enjoyed playing piano and played for the people in the Oak Ridge Health Care
Center when her sisters, Mildred and Imogene lived there. She also played for
group singing at the Keystone Program at First Methodist Church during the
time she spent there. Later Dorris moved to Key Springs Residence Home and
from there to Mariner Health of Norris. Dorris was a member of First Baptist
Church, Oak Ridge. She was a charter member of Alpha Epsillon Chapter of Delta
Kappa Gamma, an honor society for teachers. Caregiver and special friend,
Betty Fraker. Funeral service 8 p.m. Wednesday at McCarty-Martin Oak Ridge
Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Danny Bush officiating. Interment will be 1 p.m.
Thursday at Highland Park Cemetery, Williamsburg, Ky. Family will receive
friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at McCarty-Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home, Oak Ridge.
MORRIS, PAULINE PARKS - age 71, of Powell, Tenn., passed away Sunday, June 28,
1998, at UT Medical Center. She was born May 4, 1927, in Anderson Co., Tenn.
She was a member of Main Street Baptist Church. She was a member of the Powell
Lioness Club. She was the 1977 "Powell Woman of the Year." She and her
husband, were co-owners of the Powell Times in the 60's and 70's. Her favorite
hobbies were square dancing and traveling. She is preceded in death by her
husband, Robert S. Morris, Sr.; sister, Edna Miller; parents, Floyd and Molly
Parks. Survivors: daughters, Sharon Mahan, Lawrenceville, Ga., Catherine Mims
and husband, Dennis, Lawrenceville, Ga.; son, Robert S. Morris, Jr. and wife,
Mary Ann, Alpharetta, Ga.; grandchildren, Sarah Katherine Mahan,
Lawrenceville, Ga., John Ryan Mahan, Lawrenceville, Ga., Benjamin Theodore
Morris, Alpharetta, Ga., Caroline Elizabeth Morris, Alpharetta, Ga.; sister,
Thelma Sharpe, Lake City, Tenn.; brother, E.B. Parks, Athens, Tenn.; special
friends, Betty Neeley, Powell, Tenn., Billy Jean Godfrey, Powell, Tenn.,
Margie Byrd, Knoxville, Tenn. Visitation 7-9 p.m. Monday, June 29, 1998, at
Cox-Martin Chapel. Services 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, 1998, at Main Street
Baptist Church with Rev. Don Martin officiating. Body will lie in state one
hour prior to service. Interment at McCarty Woodhaven Memorial Gardens
following the service. Cox-Martin Funeral Home of Lake City in charge of
arrangements.
PROSISE, JASPER "JAP" SEVIER - age 81, of Briceville, passed away Tuesday,
June 29, 1998, at his residence. He was born March 15, 1917, in Briceville. He
was a United States Army Air Corps Veteran who served in World War II. He was
a member of Laurel Branch Baptist Church. Preceded in death by parents, Joe
and Nancy Ellen Prosise; sisters, Edith Prosise, Reba Smith and Nila Jane
Prosise. Survivors: wife, Pauline White Prosise, Briceville; children, Sharon
and Roger Nance, Lake City, Gary and Kathy Prosise, Briceville, Rickey and
Theresa Prosise, Briceville, Joey Prosise, Lake City, Becky and Abe Wilson,
Lake City, Michael Prosise, Lake City, Debbie and J.V. Seiber, Lake City;
sisters, Ruby Phillips, Harriman, Bonnie Vandergriff, Powell; 12
grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host
of friends. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 30,
1998, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Lake City with funeral service
following at 8:30 p.m. in the chapel with the Rev. Houston Carroll
officiating. Interment will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, 1998, at Circle
Cemetery in Briceville. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home of Lake City in charge of
arrangements.
SHARP, EMMITT ELVIN - age 60, of S. 19th St., LaFollette, passed away
Saturday, June 27, 1998, at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville due to
injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He wa a retired employee of
Royal Crown Cola Bottling Co. Knoxville, Tenn. Emmitt loved to play golf and
fish. He was a devoted husband, father and papaw. Emmitt had several close
cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Luther Sharp. He is survived
by his wife, Fannie Sue Sharp; sons, Mark, Darrell, Jeffrey, Michael and Neal
Sharp; 12 grandchildren; mother, Pearl Sharp; brothers, Pete, Ralph, and Denny
Sharp; sisters, Edna Johnson, Nadine Miller and Monnie Crutchfield, all of
LaFollette; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be
8 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, 1998, in the Chapel of Martin Funeral Home with Rev.
Robert Adkins and Rev. Steve Bruce officiating. The family will receive
friends 6-8 p.m. before funeral service. Interment will be 10 a.m. Wednesday,
July 1, 1998, in Woodlawn Cemetery. Martin Funeral Home of LaFollette in
charge of arrangements.
WATSON, SHIRLEY K. - 79, of Bradenton, Fla., formerly of Oak Ridge and Norris,
died Saturday, June 27, 1998, at Manatee Memorial Hospital. Survived by her
husband of 59 years, Walcott Watson; sons, Richard and wife, Rebecca of
Bristol, Tenn., David and wife, Lorraine of Oak Ridge, Robert and wife,
Michele of Tampa, Fla.; daughter, Patricia Waring and husband, James of
Farragut; grandchildren, Jennifer Waring Jackson and husband, Brian, Mark
Waring, Sarah Waring, and Jessica Watson; great-grandchildren, Kori and Hailey
Jackson; niece, Mrs. M.R. (Barbara) Bennet and family of Oak Ridge. Graveside
service Thursday, July 2, 1998, at 10 a.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park with
Rev. Bob Puckett officiating. The family will receive friend Wednesday, July
1,1998, from 6-8 p.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Waring in Farragut.
