COWEN, LUCILLE LAURA "JULIE" - passed away July 16, 2000 at Briarcliff
Nursing Home. A memorial service was held at First Baptist Church in Oak
Ridge. The body was cremated. Survived by her son, Jack Cowen and his wife,
Sharon Cowen; two grandchildren, Crystal and Bradley Cowen of Oak Ridge.
Preceded in death by husband, Don Cowen and four brothers.
JOHNSON, MARSHALL ALFRED, SR. - age 91, of Clinton, passed away Monday, July
24, 2000, at Mariner Health Care Center in Norris. He was a member of Indian
Gap Baptist Church. He retired after 35 years of service from Tennessee
Valley Authority in Norris as a Custodian with the Norris Engineering
Hydraulic Laboratory. He was a member of Andersonville Valley Lodge #383 and
also a 32nd degree member of the Scottish Rites Kerbell Temple in Knoxville.
He loved gardening. In his younger days, he worked as a barber. Preceded in
death by wife, Cora Delia Johnson; son, Donald Ray Johnson; granddaughter,
Aimee Suzanne Cates; parents, William Joseph & Eula Mae Morgan Johnson;
brothers, Josie, Homer & Webster Johnson. Born December 14, 1908 in Iuka,
Mississippi. Survivors: daughters, Elzia Maydell Bradford and husband, Kyle
of Clinton, Peggy Nell Ogle & husband, Ken of Knoxville, Edna Earl Chapman &
husband, Ted of Sevierville, Glenda Sue Cole & husband, Gary of Grey, Ga.;
sons, Marshall Alfred Johnson, Jr. of Clinton, Raymond Webster Johnson &
wife, Ruby Allene of Maynardville, Arnold Lee Johnson & wife, Carolyn of
Clinton, Garry Wayne Johnson & wife, Lori of Lake City; sisters, Eunice
Osborne of Iuka, Miss., Nancy Osborne of Iuka, Miss., Elda Hubbard of San
Diego, Calif.; 24 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; several nieces,
nephews & a host of friends. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m.
Thursday, July 27, 2000 at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with funeral
service following at 8 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Kenneth Bean officiating.
Interment will be 12 noon, Friday, at Norris Memorial Gardens. Holley-Gamble
Funeral Home of Clinton in charge of all arrangements.
MILLER, GARLAND - age 83, of LaFollette, passed away Sunday Night, July 23,
2000 at the LaFollette Medical Center. He was a member of LaFollette Church
of God and a World War II veteran. Preceded in death by daughter, DeRoma
Miller; brothers, Troy Miller, Jim Miller, Jessie Lewis and Earl Lewis;
sisters, Mary Daniels, Roxie Hornsby and Martha Wilson. Survivors: sons,
Franklin Delano Miller, Excetter, Va., Joel Tommy Miller, Excetter, Va.,
Garland Miller, Jr., Cumberland, Ky., George C. Miller, Keoke, Va.; 7
grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sister, Mattie Collins, Ft. Thomas,
Ky.; niece, Etta Mains, Butler, Ky.; special friends, Susie Thompson and Lynn
Albright. Funeral services 8 p.m. Wednesday July 26 at Cross Funeral Home
Rev. Bryan Wheble officiating. Interment 1:30 p.m. Thursday July 27 at
Riverside Cemetery, Hazard, Ky. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m.
Wednesday prior to service. Arrangements by Cross Funeral Home.

The family of Jeffrey Glen Adkins will receive friends this evening at
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton. Mr. Adkins, 39, died early Sunday
morning after his car collided with a tractor-trailer south of Bethel Valley
Road on Highway 95, according to Oak Ridge Police Lt. Gary Ogle. A security
inspector at the Y-12 plant in Oak Ridge, Mr. Adkins attended Edgemoor
Baptist Church in Claxton. He was a 1979 graduate of Clinton Senior High
School and an avid outdoorsman. Ogle said Mr. Adkins was driving northbound
in a 1987 Honda Prelude about 3:45 a.m. Sunday when he tried to negotiate a
curve and struck a trailer pulled by a 1994 Kenworth driven by Juan Medina of
Houston. Mr. Adkins' family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., with the
funeral service following in the chapel. Internment will be at 11 a.m.
Thursday at Grandview Memorial Gardens.
