Hubert W. Hutson, 81, Jellico, died Thursday, November 6, 2003 at Jellico
Community Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Agnes Hutson, Stinking Creek; one son, Arlie
Hutson, White Oak; three daughters, Barbara Rookard, LaFollette, Gail Anderson,
Browns Creek, Ky., Carol Lambdin, White Oak; 11 grandchildren, Christopher,
Mark, Brianna, Chantel, Kammi, Anita, Dustin, Jessica, Shannon, Erica and Adam; 20
great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Friday, November 7 at Harp Funeral Home Chapel with
Rev. Durand Dixon officiating.
Burial was Saturday, November 8 at Lambdin Cemetery.

Leonard Lee Long, 71, Elk Valley, died Tuesday, November 4, 2003 at Jellico
Community Hospital.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Long and Bertha Morgan Long;
two brothers, Arlie and Lansford; two sisters, Pearl and Goldie.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Geneva Long, Elk Valley; two daughters,
Julie Cooper, Hurst, Tx., Mary Jo Santez, Virginia Beach, Va.; step-daughter,
Sandra Day, Scott County; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; six brothers,
Francis Long, Oscar Long, William Long and Edgar Long, all of Elk Valley,
Robert Long, Ala., Lloyd Long, Norris and a host of other relatives and friends.
Masonic services were Thursday, November 6 at Harp Funeral Home Chapel
conducted by the Jellico Masonic Lodge F&AM #527.
Funeral services were Friday, November 7 at Elk Valley Church of God with
Rev. David Napier officiating.
Military honors were conducted by the Campbell County Honor Guard.
Burial was in Valley View Cemetery.

Alta Marlow, 91, White Oak, died Wednesday, November 5, 2003 at Methodist
Medical Center.
She was born January 11, 1912 at Glenmary, the daughter of the late Elvin and
Etta Griffith Ayers.
Alta is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Floyd Marlow; son, Wade
Marlow; brother, Mitchell Ayers and daughter-in-law, Genevee Bolton Marlow.
She is survived by four sons, Robert Marlow and wife, Jeanette, Oak Ridge,
Curtis Marlow, White Oak, Malcolm Marlow and wife, Delores, Gray, Ky., David
Marlow and wife, Beth, White Oak; two daughters, Joyce Marlow, Knoxville, Alma

Eva Maude Mazingo, 85, Anthras, died Thursday, November 6, 2003 at her home.
She had been member of the Anthras Baptist Church since April 28, 1940.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dee Mazingo; parents, Jim and Belle
Davis.
Eva is survived by her son, Kenneth Mazingo, Roses Creek; daughter and
son-in-law, Geneva and Curtis Teague, Anthras, Carolyn and Wayne King, Clairfield;
five grandchildren, Angela Espinoza, Vanessa Coleman, Connie King, Tiffany
Teague and Matthew Mazingo; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild;
brother, Dewey Davis, Jellico; sister, Minerva Henson, LaFollette; very
special friends, Sue Kepler, Lois King and Fay Terry; many nieces, nephews,
relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Sunday, November 9 at Anthras Baptist Church with
Reverends Ellis Hoskins and Horace Partin officiating.

Paul Eugene Pierce, 63, LaFollette, died Thursday, November 6, 2003 at the
Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center.
He attended the LaFollette Church of God. Paul was a loving husband, father,
and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Paul
also enjoyed his companion, a pet named Haley.
He was preceded in death by his son, Scott Morgan Pierce; parents, Charlie
and Sarah Branam Pierce; brothers, Robert and Dewey Pierce; sister, Easter
Englehart.
Paul is survived by his wife, Norma Sue Pierce, LaFollette; daughters and
sons-in-law, Rebecca and Mike Evans, Pamela and Steven Lawson, all of Jacksboro;
daughter, Debra Evans, LaFollette; 11 grandchildren; brother, Earl Pierce,
LaFollette; sisters, Betty Palmer, Oh., Mary Morgan, LaFollette, Jean Rainey,
Corbin, Ky. and several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and
special friends, Ray Browning and Troy Kidwell, LaFollette.

Joseph Paul Smith, 65, Williamsburg, Ky., died Friday, November 7, 2003 at
Beach Tree Manor, Jellico.
He was born December 26, 1937 at Cane Creek, Ky. the son of the late Claude
and Eva Bryant Smith.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Loretta Smith.
Joseph is survived by his seven daughters, Teresa Brown, LaFollette, Kathy
Siler and Paula Cox, both of Virginia Beach, Va., Tammy Walker, San Antonio,
Tx., Pamela Cobb, Corbin, Ky., Michele Bowlin,Jellico, Ky., Kristy Centers,
Williamsburg, Ky.; two sons, Brian Cox, Louisville, Ky., James Cox, Toledo, Oh.;
nine grandchildren; three sisters, Stella Lawson and Della Lawson, both of

Travis Beach, 23, Jacksboro, died Wednesday, November 5, 2003 at the St.
Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County.
He was born December 19, 1979 in Anderson County. He was of the Baptist faith
and attended the Lakeview Baptist Church. Travis loved to hunt and fish.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Georgia Gail Patterson Beach;
grandparents, John and Victoria Beach and Carl and Evelyn Queener.
Travis is survived by his father and step-mother, Terry and Angie Beach;
brother, Brent Beach, all of Jacksboro; several aunts, uncles, cousins and many,
many friends.
Visitation was Saturday, November 8 at the Lakeview Baptist Church,
Caryville.
Funeral services were Saturday, November 8 at the Lakeview Baptist Church
with Rev. Roger Stanley officiating.
Interment followed Sunday, November 9 in the Queener Cemetery in the Cherry

Walter D (Dink) Bryant, 84, LaFollette, a native of Kentucky died Thursday,
November 6, 2003 at the St. Mary's Health and Rehabilitation of Campbell
County.
He was born July 21, 1919. He was a coal miner for 47 years and was a loving
father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Nannie (Calloway) Bryant;
son, Robert K. Bryant; brother, Howard Bryant; sister, Elizabeth Spargo;
daughter-in-law, Linda Bryant.
Walter is survived by his wife of 65 years, Pauline (Hensley) Bryant;
daughter and sons-in-law, Pearl and Bob Harper, LaFollette, Sue and Leon Hubbard,
Charlottesville, Va., Linda and John Nader, Detroit, Mi.; son, Walter Earl
Bryant, Wauconda, Il.; sisters, Agnes Bird, Bristol, Va., Gladys Adams, Cincinnati,
Oh.; brothers, Jim and Cooper Bryant, both of Columbus, Oh.

Polly Emily Byrge, Caryville, died November 9, 2003 at St. Mary's Medical
Center of Campbell County.
She was born March 4, 1938 to Nettie and Calvin Carroll. She was a member of
Fellowship Baptist Church. She loved sewing and quilting.
Polly is preceded in death by her parents, Nettie and Calvin Carroll;
husband, Walter Byrge; sons, Charles and Levi Byrge; daughters, Barbara Ann Carroll,
Wanda Byrge and Veinee Byrge; granddaughter, Emily Byrge and brother, Joe
Carroll.
She is survived by her children, Johnny Carroll and wife Wanda, Briceville,
Pauline Byrge, Caloway Byrge, both of Caryville; five grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren; sisters, Inez Carroll, Mina Bell Daugherty and Mindy
Patterson, all of Anderson County, Ruthie Byrge, Caryville; special friends, Jack
Arms and Marshall Seiber, both of Caryville.

James P. Cooper, 84, Clinton, formerly of Knoxville and LaFollette died
Wednesday, November 5, 2003 at Windwood Health Care Center.
He was a veteran of the United States Army serving four years in World War II
and 31 months overseas. His faith was in God.
James is preceded in death by his parents, Paris and Maggie Grant Cooper;
brothers, Kermit, Clifford and Roscoe Cooper; sisters, Phyllis Landrum and Ruth
Cook.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Beulah Cooper, Clinton; daughters,
Linda Maze and husband, Larry, Chattanooga, Cynthia Chudley, Knoxville, Nancy
Simpson and husband, Steven, Manchester, Carol Evans and husband, Jeff,
Maryville; brothers, Vaughn Cooper and wife, Ann, Knoxville, Raymond and wife, Peggy
Cooper, Billy Cooper and wife, Emma, Donnie Cooper and wife, Bernice, all of
LaFollette; sister, Delsie Dagley and husband, Buford, LaFollette; 12
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
His family especially thanks all who gave loving care to James in the past
months.

Vestie Morley Davis, 82, LaFollette, died Monday, November 10, 2003 at the
St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County.
She was a member of the General Assembly Church of God, Chaska. Mrs. Davis
was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother
who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed
fishing and cooking for her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. William E. Davis; sons, Lex
and Louis Davis and parents, Thomas York and Bertie Blaock.
Mrs. Davis is survived by her sons, James Davis, Clairfield, Willie and Jerry
Davis, LaFollette, Johnny Davis, Dayton, Oh.; daughters, Thelma Davis, Betty
Hoskinds, Rosetta Davis, all of LaFollette, Alma Teague, Prudon, Phyllis
Hamblin and Kathy Johnson, both of Clairfield, Linda Markwell, Oh., Bertie
Triplett, Dayton, Oh.; 31 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren and five
great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Thursday, November 13 in the Chapel of Martin
Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Junior Dilbeck officiating.
Interment will follow in Lambdin Cemetery.

Doris Elaine Iaroli, 83, Lake City, died Sunday, November 2, 2003 at the Fort
Sanders Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville.
She was born March 4, 1920 in Brooklyn, N.Y. to the late William Joseph and
Marie Hamilton. She and her husband, Francis, "Frank" moved from River Edge,
N.J. to Lake City in 1975.
Doris was a member of the St. Therese Catholic Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marian Varhall.
Doris is survived by her husband of 56 years, Francis "Frank" Iaroli, Lake
City; sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Kenneth Cole, Dumont, N. J.; several
nieces and nephews.
Visitation was Wednesday, November 5 at the Hatmaker Funeral Home.
Funeral Mass was also Wednesday, November 5 in the Hatmaker Funeral Home
Chapel with Father Gerard Finucane officiating.
Interment was Thursday, November 6 at the Valley View Cemetery in Elk Valley.

home.
She was preceded in death by her parents Roxie Eldridge Wilburn and Jim

Leeroy; sisters, Ella McCullah, Estelle Burnett, Mary Lyons, Emma Sue Wilburn and
Flossie Wilburn.
Frances is survived by her husband, Conday Jordan, LaFollette; eight
children, Wanda Hurstien, Morton, Ill., Mary King, Callie Lamb, Tommie Sue Elkins, all

John "Joe" Morton, 81, California, formerly of the Wells Springs community in
Campbell County died October 28, 2003.
He was an Air Force pilot during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Morton; parents, Edwin e E. Sr.
and Carrie Lee Morton; brother, Edwin E. Morton Jr. and wife, Reba; infant
brother and sister.
John is survived by his daughters, Charlotte, Las Vegas, Nv., Naomi Jo, Reba
Jean and Dawn, Ca.; a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren; sister,
Margaret and husband, Carl Parrott, Knoxville; brothers, Charles and wife

Jolene Walters Mynatt, 75, LaFollette, died Sunday October 26, 2003 at her
home.
She was a member of Demory Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jess and Delia Marie (Arms) Walters
and her brother, Rev. Harold Walters.
Jolene is survived by her husband, Verlin Mynatt, LaFollette; sons, Thomas
Mynatt, Knoxville, John Mynatt, Perry, Ga.; five grandchildren; seven
great-grandchildren; sister, Wilene Goodlin, Anderson, S.C.

John Thomas Lowell Slover, 51, LaFollette, died Friday, November 7, 2003 at
St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County.
He was a former LaFollette Police Officer, member of the Jacksboro Masonic
Lodge, former president of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #40, and was a
born again Christian.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bart and Edith Slover; siblings,
Jolene Lane, Donnie Ray, James, Juanita and Thelma.
John is survived by his wife, Kay Slover, LaFollette; brother, William
Slover, Speedwell; sisters, Ruth Marlow, Snellville, Ga., Carolyn Tackett,
Jacksboro; aunt, Nannie White, LaFollette; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and
friends.
Funeral services were Sunday, November 9 at Long Hollow Baptist Church with
Reverends Eric Gibby, Jimmy Griffith and Charles Sparks officiating.

Irene Smith, 83, LaFollette, died Friday, November 7, 2003 at St. Mary's
Medical Center of Campbell County.
She was a member of the Bear Wallow Baptist Church and retired from Imperial
Reading. She resided on Water Street, Jacksboro, for 20 years before moving to
LaFollette.
Irene is preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Rachel Smith; brother,
Tom Smith; sisters, Viola Rutherford, Ruth Bunch, Thelma Bunch, Geneva Sutton
and Roxie Wilson.
She is survived by her sisters, Maggie Bunch, Oh., Georgia Smith, LaFollette;
several nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Sunday, November 9 at Walters Chapel with Reverends
Leroy Braden and Jim Rutherford officiating.
Interment was Monday, November 10 at Harness Cemetery at Caryville.

Robert Lynn "Bobby" Stevenson, 40, Clinton, died Saturday, November 8, 2003
at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge.
He was a member of the Schultz Hollow Baptist Church. He loved woodworking
and camping and also loved his truck.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Willie Mae Stevenson and
half-brother, Carlton Stevenson.
Robert is survived by his wife, Vickie Stevenson, Clinton; sons, Robert
Douglas Lytle and wife, Jessica, Steven Daniel Lytle, Michael Scott Adams, all of
Clinton; sisters, Terri Phillips and husband, Bayless, Lake City, Shirley Mabe,

7, 2003 at the St. Mary's Hospice Center in Halls.
He was born August 25, 1959 in Anderson County. He was employed at the
Briarcliff Health Care Center in Oak Ridge.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Lassie Reed Tweed;
grandmother, Winnie Reed.
David is survived by his wife, Carolyn Tweed, Clinton; sisters, Diane Higgs,

Interment was Monday, November 10 at the Woodlawn Cemetery in LaFollette.
Hatmaker Funeral Home of Lake City was in charge of the arrangements.
Gary Lynn White, 53, Briceville, died Sunday, November 9, 2003 at Methodist
Medical Center.
He was of the Baptist faith. He loved to fish and hunt.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Connie Sellers White; mother, Joann
Duncan.
Gary is survived by his daughter, Crystal Sue White, Lake City; son, Gary
Dale White, Clinton; father, Clarence Duncan, Briceville; sister, Dana Daugherty
and husband Tim, Lake City; one grandchild and a host of friends.
The family received friends on Tuesday, November 11 at the Holley-Gamble
Funeral Home in Lake City.
Funeral services followed in the chapel with Reverends Jesse Lawson and
Archie Seiber officiating.
Interment was Wednesday November 12 at the Circle Cemetery in Briceville.
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Lake City was in charge of the arrangements.
