Glad to hear from you. I truly think that the research Aunt Mary Lou & I
have done is going to force a re-evaluation of my Samuel HUFF. The work of
Max HUFF & Granville HOUGH doesn't contain a mention of the family tie-ins
I can make. There is no whisper of the exceptionally strong family
connection of the children & grand-children of the four CORDER
sisters. Given the destruction of documents it is hard to know if on paper
proof will ever verify all the implied family connections.
But I am dead certain that the Samuel HUFF b. ca 1781 Va d. 1868 Douglas
Co. Mo is probably a cousin or nephew, or son of John HUFF m. Mary Elinor
"Nelly" CORDER. And I state this in full knowledge that no HUFF family yet
claims my Samuel. He married: 1) Hannah KENDAL <my line via son Leonard
HUFF m. Sarah MEREDITH). 2) Phoebe [WHITESIDES].
The tie in is the STUBBLEFIELDs. Jacob JOB(E) m. Martha "Patty" CORDER is
the uncle of William Samuel JOBE m. Melinda STUBBLEFIELD, sister of
Betsy. William ALLEN s/o Issac ALLEN & Sophia Ruth CORDER married daughter
Elizabeth "Betsy" STUBBLEFIELD <my personal line> d/o William STUBBLEFIELD
& Elizabeth McDANIEL. THREE of William & Betsy ALLEN' children marry three
grand-children of Samuel HUFF via son Leonard HUFF m. Sarah
MEREDITH. William ALLEN was known to have professional connections <Land
surveying> to a David FINE of St. Louis before we had a clue David FINE was
William ALLEN's Uncle. He also married Ann CORDER sister of Mary ELinor &
Sophia Ruth & Martha Patsy CORDER.
Isaac ALLEN m. Sophia Ruth CORDER & son William ALLEN m. Betsy
STUBBLEFIELD, John HUFF m. Mary CORDER, David FINE brother-in-law to John
HUFF m. Mary Elinor CORDER & Leonard HUFF 1725-1810 m. Elizabeth unknown
were all land surveyors.
Estelle CORDER is not at all responsible for any conclusions in this post
(CORDER-L connection), but i interpret information she provided as
indicating that Elizabeth BRANSON d/o John BRANSON & Elizabeth unknown (a
quaker family) appears to be the mother of the Cocke Co. Tenn CORDER
sisters. And nothing anywhere suggests she was a SLOAT.
It is time for serious HUFF researchers to step forward. Knowing I tie in
is not the same as knowing HOW I tie in. But Samuel HUFF & John HUFF have
to be closely connected, I have a slew of family times to John HUFF m.
Mary Elinor "Nelly" CORDER without being a direct descendant. <P.S.: the
mother of these CORDER sisters was NOT named SLOAT. I would like anyone
thinking otherwise to present credible evidence a woman named SLOAT ever
lived, anywhere near at this time.
