I've had the great fortune to find several cousins as I've researched our
family genealogy and it occurs to me that with the internet it might be an
interesting experiment for a group of people with roots to the same county
during a given time period work together to see how many of us are actually
related.

The history of Cocke county is one of migration and from what I can see many
of our ancestors moved together just as you would expect neighbors to do.

For myself when I do genealogy research I focus primarily on one or two last
names and often ignore (mainly because I can't remember) requests for
non-primary names.

What do you all think? If we look only at folks born in Cocke County
between 1800 and the Civil war? Take a look through our trees and just list
last names of what you have. Then from there start forming links. I'm not
sure how the math works out but it occurs to me that if we start only with
last names then do some matching we could maybe find some new cousins?

I'm pretty sure everyone in the County married a Burke girl. My family had
a ton of them and I can't seem to locate but a few marriages. Here is a
list of last names from my family tree all born or married in Cocke county.

Burke
Mantooth
Lloyd
O'Dell
Allen
Corrotto
West
King
McMahan
Green

The other issue to think about if you are like me, is the number of wives
first names you may have in your family tree without last names attached.

Of course all of this could be just a delirious mind at play but if you are
at all interested why not send some last names to the group over the next
couple weeks. I think I'd be willing to try to compile them into a general
Cocke County family.

Am I insane?
