Unfortunately, I don't have a Sarah listed for John Edward Steele
(1786-1871).

I have John's first wife as Jane Compton, b. in VA and d. 1844 in VA, and
four children for them: Mary, Matilda, Nancy Jane and William H. (b. 1827
who married a Sissy McDole and an Elizabeth Vickers). I have John's second
wife as Mahala Goodman, born 1820 in TN, and two children from this union:
Amanda M. and Julia. You indicate one of your Sarah's daughters was a
Mahala, so maybe there is a connection somewhere.

Max, can you tell me if your STEELE had a daughter named Sarah J. b. abt
1835 in TN. She's found in the 1860 Searcy Co. AR census with her children;
Mary J, Martha E, and Mahala A. Apparently she married a HAMILTON, but not
sure when, but all the children are born in AR after 1852. Sarah is found
in the same census with STEELE, Wm age 17, who quite possibly is her
brother.

Yes. John W. Puckett my GGG Grandfather, and two of his daughters married
sons of George and Silvey: Malinda married Elijah Smith, and Matilda
married Thomas Jefferson Smith - both brothers to your line to Charles.

My database also indicates you and I are 5th cousins and are related at
least two ways (and probably more), through the Steeles, via a couple of
links, and through the LaFevers. Specifically:

* John Edward Steele (1786 - ?) born TN, my GGGG Grandfather and, by my
database, in your line through your grandmother, Mary Dell Steele.
* Andrew LaFever (1774 - ?) born Washington Co., VA, another GGGG
Grandfather and, according to my tree, in your line, through your
grandfather, William Logan Rice.

Hope this is correct. If not, please let me know.
