As far as I know, John Steele did not have a middle name Edward. He was born
about 1785, probably in Augusta County, Virginia or Davidson County, NC (not
sure when the earliest date Archibald Buchanan appears in Nashville area),
but he died August (4th I think) 1871 in DeKalb County, and had served as a
Private in Capt. John Hallum's Company, 29th or 39th U.S. Infantry in the
War of 1812. First wife: Jane Compton married 1810 Wilson County. Second
wife: Mahala Goodman, married 1844 DeKalb County, TN. She received a widow's
pension in 1873, and died sometime after 1880.
I've got a suspicion that Andrew Lafever Jr's wife, Celia Steele may have
been a daughter of John Steele. I am not sure of this, however. There's no
doubt in my mind that she's a descendant of Andrew Steele. I've just not
found much on her at all. She was either a daughter of John's or one of his
brothers.
Thanks,
Will
