Michael H. Massengale, 60
FAIRMOUNT - Michael H. Massengale, 60, passed away Tuesday evening at
Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis after a two week battle with cancer.
He was born on June 30, 1950 in Wayne County, Kentucky, the son of the late
Henry and Ina Neal Massengale.
He graduated from Wayne County High School in 1968 and moved to Muncie. He
went to work for General Motors Chevrolet in Muncie and was still working at
the General Motors Plant in Marion at his death. He had over forty-two years
of service.
He was in the Indiana National Guard for six years with the 138th Signal
Battalion and was a member of the Goldwing Road Riders Chapter E of
Anderson. He had ridden his cycle in all lower 48 states and Canada.
He married Burma Songer on August 11, 1972.
Beside his wife, he is survived by two children, Michelle, and one son, Ryan
(Shannon) of Frankton; five grandchildren, Landyn, Kyle, Tristan, Leightyn
and Madelynn; one sister, Brenda (Gene) Guffey of Daleville; sister-in-law,
Dorothy Massengale of New Castle; brothers and sisters-in-laws, Lois and
Harold Christian, Ruth and Wayne Tomey, Cathy and Jim Fancil, Don and Norma
Songer, Johnny and Kris Songer, Gerald Songer, Sam and Bonniejo Songer,
Robert and Debbie Songer, and Rhonda Songer.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; five brothers and three
sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1:00 p.m. at Ballard and Sons
Funeral Home, 8212 South Walnut, Daleville with Pastor James Sandburg
officiating.
Burial will follow in Tomlinson Cemetery near Muncie
Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved
body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "Holy sh**
- what a ride!"
