The Rev. War Pension Application Transcription and excellent documentation was done by Terry Fox. At the time it was done he lived close to the area where the actual fighting was done and was able to visit the Archives. He found the actual stub showing payment to Gatus for his service and was able to prove his service in the war. I checked census records and also tax records for Casey Co., KY. I found Gatus/Gates/Gather on the tax lists for Casey Co. for 1807, 1808, 1810, 1821, 1822, 1823, and 1825. When checking for deeds I found my Daniel and Dorcas Cox which was a surprise because I had decided they didn't exist. Like you, I was trying to prove a family legend. Our family legend was that Daniel Cox lived to be over 100 and died at the home of his daughter Mary FOX in Gibson Co., TN. The land records in Casey Co., KY, where Daniel purchased land and then sold it about 1816 are the only records I've been able to find on Daniel and Dorcas. I think our family legend just g!
ot confused over the years and it was Gatus who lived to be over 100 and died in Gibson Co. Another Fox researcher with a family legend believes that Gatus went back to KY and died at the home of another daughter. I don't know where any of the Fox family was buried in Gibson Co. One researcher from the area sent me information several years ago indicating that the Fox Cemetery was destroyed by a road and there is no longer any evidence of its existence. I'm sorry I don't have more information. I would like to know a little about each of Edward Fox's children. I still hope that some day someone will come forward with another little bit of information that will help me. I'll send you the contact addresses that I have. They are several years old and may no longer be valid.
