Funny how names get messed up. No wonder we can't find anyone. Here is a bit
of help. Remember, I have not proven any of this and I am not related so I

Isaiah was a farmer and carpenter
He first appears in SC census. Believed he married ca 1815-16. His wife,
Christina is thought to be a dau. of Saul Mize. In same census were;
James Belue, Samuel Belue, Zachariah Belue and Josiah Belue, with Saual
Mize, James Mize, Jesse Belue, Zachariah Belue and Isiah Belue being all
listed on the same page.

Isaiah was living in Hall, GA by 1830. Records from the Dept of Archives and
History, Atlanta, GA shlw that Isiah Bellew and Lady purchased various items
from "The Trading Post" operated by Frances C. Andow, located on the
Chestatee River in the gold mining and bolding? Bridge District near
Hall/Dawspm County line.
Pioneers settlers of Hall Co and their purchases are recorded in the
ledgers. On April 28, 182-, Isiah purchaed 1 pair of shoes [let us all
remember all much our descendants will be able to find out about us- smile.

In 1840 Isaiah was living in Newton Co GA. Before 1850, he had moved to St
Clair Co AL. About 1842. Saul Mize died Sept 27, 1856, prob in Cullman Co
or St Clair Co AL.

In 1860 Isaiah was residing in Twp 13, in St Clair Co AL. Land recrods
indicate that Isaiah Belew on Jan 24, 1855, purchased the SE 1/4 of NW 1/4
of Twp 13 S, Range 4 East. Section 9, consisting of 39.91 acres.

According to the William Henry Bellew Bible, Christianna Bellew died 18 Oct
1863.

In 1870, St Clair Co AL census, Isaiah Bellew, age 77, retired and lvining
in the HH of Phillip Windsor, age 33, with wife, Eliza Clements, age 25, dau
of John Clements, along with 6 Windsor children in Subd 39, Precinct No 1,
Branchville. By 1880, Isaiah was living in Giles Co TN in the HH of his dau
and son in law, Lucy H. and William G. Rutherford. Died 1890 still in
Rutherford HH. Almost 98 years old!

Lucy H. Rutherford, born 4 Feb 1840, died 13 May, 1903, buried at Pleasant
Ridge Cem. Giles Co TN. Take Hwy, 11, right at Minor Hill water tank,
cemetery is on the left at church. Her sister, Miss M.E. Bellew [Martha]
born 24 Feb 1835, died 25 Dec 1903 buried there too.

1. Rhoda b 20 Sept 1822 Union Co SC, died 24 July, 1901, Steel Depot, St
Clair AL md Richard Johns. Rhoda applied for Bounty Land & pension for
Richard on 30 Aug 1892 when she was 70 years old. Pension was granted and
last payment dropped due to her death, July 24, 1901. Rhoda and Richard md
13 Oct 1842 St Clair, AL.

2. William A. b 6 May 1825 GA, died 19 Dec 1899 in Blount Co AL. age 74.
Anticoch United Meth Ch. Bureau of Land Management, Document no 22399 on 20
May, 1862 in St Clair, AL. in fall of 1862, several men ,including William,
lived on Straight Mountain, and refused to join Conf Army and hid out in
caves . Eventually Rev. Jack Brasher took 16 men through the lines to a
recruiting station including Bill and they joined the Union Army. William
Bellew, Private, Co F, 19th Rgmt AL Inf.. Honorably discharged at Columbus,
OH 12 June 1865. He was captured at Athens, AL.. Pension application Dec 24,
1891, age 66, resident of Chepultpec, Blount Co AL, Granted Aug 15, 1892. He
died Dec 19, 1899. He md 1st Mary Bearden Shirley in Guntersville, Marshall
Co AL. Mary md 1st Aaron Frank Shirley. He was killed in CW. 1880 Blount Co
AL census; William Ballew age 55 GA, wife Mary 44 AL, Jesse Pliney, son 12
AL, Fayette E. , son 9 AL, Ellen Christianna, 6 AL, Sarah Abigail 5 AL and
Amanda 3 AL. & William Henry b 20 Dec 1880 . Obit from Southern Democrat,
Dec 21, 1899. William Ballew, one of Blount's oldest citizens, died at his
home a few miles south on Onconta Monday.

she was living in the Rutherford HH in 1900 census. She was b GA.

6. James M.D. b 1838 GA, died 6 May, 1864 Batatle of the Wilderness. Pct.
wnd Co G, 48th AL Inf Rgmt. Enlisted May 10, 1862 Gadsden AL. Married Nancy
Ann Chambers b 1843 GA. Md 25 Dec 1860 St Clair, AL. one ch Rolan Harvey
Bellew b 30 Oct 1862 Etowah, Attalla, AL.

7. Lucy Ann b 4 Feb 1840 Newton GA md Mr. John, and Mr Rutherford, d 13 May,
1903 Giles Co TN age 63. Rejected for Widow's pension Giles Co Nov 7, 1897.
No grounds or no title as soldier's death was not due to military services.

Richard enrolled on teh 6th Nov 1863 as Private in Co K 3rd Rgmt TN Calvary
Volunteers commanded by John H. Morton. He was captured by teh enemy sespt
24, 1864 at Athens, AL and escaped from rebel prison at Catawba, AL abt Jan
16, 1865. He was honorable disc at Pulaski, Giles Co T on 3rd day of Aug
1865 by reason of close of war.

On Dec 23, 1868 he married Mary Jan Potter at Pulaski, Giles CO TN by Squire
Masby [Maulesby]. They had 2 ch, neither of them alive in Dec 1897.

May 20, 1862, James Ballew and Nancy Ann, his wife, rec. $35 from Richard
Ballew 'All of the West half and South East Quarter of the NW quarter of
Section 9, Twp 13, Range 4 E. St CLair Co AL".

Richard and Mary Jane left TN, went toLogan Co AR and on to Indian Territory
Oklahoma. Richard appliced for a pension 24 Sept 1892 age 49, a resident of
Stillwater, Payne Co OK Territory. Application stated that " he is now
unable to earn a support by manul labor by reason of weak eyes, injury to
right hand, chest trouble, rheumatism, partly contracted at Cahaba Prison,
AL. Richard 'Uncle Rich' was menber of The Grand Army of the Republic Post
in Jennings, OK in 1897, according to a letter written in 1897, from Jesse
Pliney Bellew, living in TX, to William Henry Bellew in AL.

On Nov 30, 1895, Richard F. Ballew, aged 51, of the Creek Nation, again
applied for a pension. Personal description on aplication;
5' 9 "", complexion- fair, Light blue eyes,. Cert pension # 973711 pd Nov
4, 1900. Richard died Jan 6, 1901. [You can order a copy of his pension on
line from National Archives for Conf. War.-Ginny]

His widow filed claim July 2, 1903, Mary Jane Billew, age 58, opf Jennings,
OK Territory. "I am the claimant of the above cited claim for widow's
pension. My husband and I lived together from the time we were married until
he died. I never remarried. I cannot earn my support. Mary Jane received
widow's pension Cert.. # 574194 of $8.00, last being paid May 4, 1905 and
dropped due to her death late May 1905.
