Hardeman County cemetery books show James T. Pugh (died age 72 on 19 Sep
1882) and Eliza B. Whitmore Pugh (no dates) married 27 Aug 1835 buried
in Whitmore Cemetery which is located on the farm that was owned by Berl
Whitmore, James T. Pugh, Marvin Hensley and a Mr. Wiles. Further notes
in the book state that Berl Whitmore came to the county from Virginia in
1830 with his wife Amanda (Elder) Whitmore. Amanda died during the Civil
War. Berl and Amanda's children were: Sallie, also buried in this cemetery
who died soon after arriving here; Eliza B. who married James Pugh; R.
A. who married Cornelia A. Brown; Amanda who married Hamilton Mask; Martha
who married Houston Mitchell, and George who married Rebecca Usher.
