MARTHA LUIZA ELIZABETH PLUNK, 97, died Friday, July 2, 1999, at Methodist
Healthcare McNairy County of respiratory failure. She was a homemaker, a
member of the Methodist church, and the Selmer Moose Lodge.
Services took place at 3:30 p.m. on Sat., July 3, at Shackelford Chapel
in Selmer. Burial was held at liberty Cemetery in Bethel Springs.
Officiating the services was Minister Zolan Clayton. Pallbearers were Terry
Huggins, Larry Floyd, Harold David Plunk, Byron Banks, Stanley Huggins, and
Kennie Lamberth.
Mrs. Plunk was preceded in death by her husband, David Jefferson Plunk,
her parents, William Robert and Margaret Barnes Plunk, and one son, David J.
Plunk. She is survived by two daughters, Beadie Floyd and Irma Huggins,
both of Selmer, three sons Beuard Plunk or Ramer, Arbie Plunk and Henry
Plunk, both of Selmer, twelve grandchildren, fourteen gr-grandchildren, and
three gr-gr-grandchildren.

JOSEPH L. "TAD" TACKER died July 1, 1999 of heart failure at his home in
the Good Hope Community. He was born April 6, 1920.
Mr. Tacker was a long time member of the Good Hope Baptist Church. He
served as a Deacon for 42 years and Chairman of Deacons for 33 years.
He worked for McNairy County for many years and was Road Commissioner
from 1970-1978. He retired from Cypress Creek Watershed Department in 1998.
He is survived by his wife, Edna Mae Raines Tacker, three daughters and
two sons-in-law, Russell and Becky DeBerry of Hornsby, Kenneth and Sandra
Sweat of Selmer and Sherry Tacker of Memphis. Grandchildren include Scott
and Kevin Sweat, Christy Smith and Amy DeBerry. He has five
gr-grandchildren.
Services were held Sat., July 3, at Good Hope Baptist Church at 1:30
p.m.

PEGGY MARTIN ROBINSON, 68, died on Tues., June 29, 1999, at Hardin County
Nursing Home in Savannah of complications from a stroke. She was a
homemaker, a former employee of Citizens Bank and a member of First United
Methodist Church.
Services took place at 1 p.m. on Thurs., July 1, at Shackelford Funeral
Home in Savannah. Burial was held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Selmer.
Mrs. Robinson is survived by her husband, Vernon Lee Robinson of
Savannah, her mother, Gladys S. Martin of Savannah, one son, Martin Lee
Robinson of Charlotte, NC, one sister, Doris M. Jiebault of Pickwick Dam,
and three grandchildren.
Memorial contributions can be made to the First United Methodist Church
in Savannah.

ELMO SHEFFIELD, 61, died on Tues., June 29, 1999, at Jackson General
hospital of cancer. He was a retired roofer and carpenter. He was born and
reared in McNairy County, son of the late Elijah Boss and Malisia Davidson
Sheffield. He grew up in the Bethel Springs Community and in 1963 was
married to Betty Sue Ligon of the Montezuma Community and they made their
home in Henderson. He coached Dixie Youth Little League for many years
during the 1970s and 1980s. He owned and operated Fisherman Paradise for
the past four years. He had been sick for the past four months.

Services took place at 11 a.m. on Thurs., July 1, at Casey Funeral Home
Chapel. Burial was held at Chester County Memory Gardens. Officiating the
services was Elder Elmer Weaver. Pallbearers were Jimmy Beller, Scott
Bayless, and Leon Lofton.
Mr. Sheffield is survived by one son, Jeff Sheffield of Medon, two
brothers Millard Sheffield of Trenton and Everett Sheffield of Finger, five
sisters, Willie Criss of Trenton, Doris Whitten of Henderson, Mary Lee
Wooley of Jackson, Duell Criss of New Madrid, MO, and Loraine Cheshier of
Bethel Springs, and three grandchildren, Skylar, Dalton and Nicole
Sheffield.

VERONIA SUE POINDEXTER, 51, died on Wed., June 30, 1999, at her home of
cancer. She was the owner of Reggie's Steak House and a member of Falcon
Baptist Church. Eastern Star, Moose Lodge, and Selmer Country Club.
Services took place at 1 p.m. on Fri., July 2, at Shackelford Chapel in
Selmer. Burial was held at Falcon Cemetery in Selmer. Officiating the
services was Minister Frank Whitman. Pallbearers were Aron Walker, Jerry
Poindexter, Anthony Richards, Michael McCormack, Robert Richards, and Terry
Richards.
Mrs. Poindexter was preceded in death by her parents, Robert M. and
Bulah Flatt Richards. She is survived by her husband, Reggie Poindexter,
one daughter, Sonya Poindexter king of Ramer, one son, Rodney Poindexter of
Ramer, three sisters, Violet Hacker of Selmer, vivian mcCormack of
Cleveland, and Eva Mae Davis of Sikeston, MO, five brothers, Harold Richards
of Selmer, Jerry Richards, Bob Richards, Herbert Richards, and Ronnie
Richards, all of Memphis, and two grandchildren, Kasey and Kody Poindexter.

THELMA WOODROW NAYLOR, 92, died on July 1, 1999, at her home of heart
failure. She was a retired school teacher and a member of First United
Methodist Church in Henderson. She was born in South Fulton and reared in
Oakton, KY, daughter of the late George Horace and Mattie Marine Woodrow.
She graduated from Oakton, KY, graduated from Murray State University, and
graduated from Union University with a BA in Education in 1953. She was
married to James Harrison Naylor of Finger, and they made their home in
Finger where Mr. Naylor was the Depot Agent for GM&O Railroad. He died in
1958. Mrs. Naylor taught school at Finger and later in Bethel Springs for
18 years, and in the Memphis City School System for 15 years, retiring in
1975. She made her home in Memphis from 1960 until 1984 when she moved back
to Henderson.
Services took place at 1 p.m. on Sat., July 3, at Casey Funeral Home
chapel. Burial was held at Old Friendship Cemetery. Officiating the
services was Rev. Randy Cooper. Pallbearers were Robert Wright, Jr., Billy
Wright, David Waterfield, Anthony Naylor, Bill Barclay, Todd Woodruff, Tony
Canaday, and Terry Cone.
Mrs. Naylor is survived by one son, Glenn Naylor of Finger, two
daughters, Nancy Woodruff of Henderson and Sue Wright of martin, eight
grandchildren Robert Wright, Jr., of Martin, Susan Waterfield of Sharon,
Billy Wright of martin, Stacy Wright of Martin, Anthony Naylor of Finger,
Lisa Barclay of hendrson, Todd Woodruff of Cullman, Ala., and Laura Canaday

of Finger, Thirteen gr-grandchildren, and one gr-gr-grandchild.

GERTRUDE BENDALL, 74, died on Wed., June 30, 1999, at St. Francis Hospital
in Memphis of respiratory failure. She was a retired production operator at
I.T.T. and a member of the United Pentecostal Church of Bethel Springs.
Services took place at 3 p.m. on Fri., July 2, at Shackelford Chapel
in Selmer. Burial was held at Falcon Cemetery in Selmer. Officiating the
services was Minister Jeff Young. The pallbearers were her grandsons.
Mrs. Bendall was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Willie
Mae Long Martin, three sisters, Dorothy Ray, Evie Ray, and Mary Martin, and
two brothers, Thomas Martin and James Martin. She is survived by two
daughters, Johnnie Spencer of Brookston, Ind., and Billie Stewart of
Memphis, three sons, Bobby Bendall of Ramer, Tommy Clark and Jerry Clark
both of Peru, Ind., one brother Franklin Martin of Stantonville, fifteen
grandchildren, twenty-four gr-grandchildren and one gr-gr-grandchild.

SHELBY JEAN POOLE, 63, died on Tues., June 29, 1999, at Jackson-Madison
County General Hospital of heart failure. She was a sewing mahine operator
at a clothing factory and attended the Pentecostal Church.
Services took place at 1 p.m. on Thurs, July 1, at Shackelford chapel
in Adamsville. Burial was held at Adamsville Cemetery in Adamsville.
Officiating the services was Minister W. D. McCollum.
Mrs. Poole was preceded in death by her husband, Roy l. Poole, her
parents, B. N. and Alva Harris Newell, one half-sister, Ruby Dickey, and one
brother George "Sonny" Newell. She is survived by one foster daughter,
Terri DePriest Byrd of Waco, TX, and two brothers, Bobby Newell of
Adamsville and Roger Newell of Memphis.
