Edgar,
The exact date of the POA looks like the seventh of August, 1846. I note
that Walker didn't record the document until 1849. That appears to be when
they began to sell lots. Walker, Polk and Young allowed some of their
kinfolk to share in the risk of subdivision development, going from 1/3rd
ownership to 1/7th ownership.
Something doesn't quiet mesh. Walker, Young and Polk bought the Marion
Furnace and other tracts in 1838, therefore could not have bought the
property at an estate auction in 1842 or 45? Do you think that would be 32
or 35 or perhaps 38?
I note that one or two tracts contained ore banks. Any idea about the
location of these ore banks? You told me last week when we were discussing
the county line, where the Marion Furnace was located. Will you tell me
again so I can spot it on a quad map?
Since I shouldn't send an attachment to the list, in a separate message I am
sending a copy of the 1846 POA. I can't get it all because my scanner is
not that big, but, the important parts are there. If anyone else has read
this far and would like a copy of the POA, send me an email.
David
